Introduction
HMCLS (High-density Multi-Channel recording System) is a platform for real-time neural recording. It pairs a dedicated embedded device with a cross-platform desktop application.
System Overview
| Component | Description |
|---|---|
| HMCLS device | A multi-channel neural recording system that handles acquisition, spike detection, and user script execution. |
| hmcls-app (Tauri) | Desktop application (Windows/macOS/Linux) that connects to the device over Ethernet/UDP, provides the visual block programming studio, and displays real-time data. |
Key Capabilities
What HMCLS can do
- Acquisition — up to 32 channels simultaneously (16 or 32, depending on the headstage)
- Block programming — visual Studio panel compiles programs to firmware bytecode
- Python scripting —
.homPython scripts can send UDP commands and react to data streams, enabling automated experiments and custom workflows - Multi-board coordination — multiple devices collaborate via UDP network commands
- Real-time visualization — signal viewer, raster, heatmap, and STA panels
