The Device Screen
The HMCLS device has a built-in colour display (320 × 240 pixels). It shows the state of the device at a glance — network address, acquisition, headstage, load, Studio program — so you can check the device without a computer. A single page button switches between two pages.
All the text of the screen is written in capitals.
The panel below is a faithful, interactive reproduction of the screen: same layout, same colours, same font, pixel for pixel. Press the buttons to see how the screen reacts.
Start-up screen
When the device is powered on, the logo is shown with a progress bar and the current start-up step:
| Step | Meaning |
|---|---|
INIT ETHERNET | The network interface is starting. |
WAITING FOR IP | The device is waiting for an IP address (see Connecting to a Device). |
STARTING TASKS | The network is ready, the device finishes its start-up. |
READY | The device is ready. |
The start-up screen stays at least 3 seconds. If the device is not ready after 8 seconds, the main page is shown anyway (the IP line then reads WAIT IP until an address is obtained). The bottom line shows the product tagline and the version.
Page 1 — Device status
1 — Logo
The Homunculus logo, top left.
2 — IP address
The address of the device on the network, at the top right.
| Text | Meaning |
|---|---|
WAIT IP | The device is waiting for an address (DHCP). If none is given within 10 seconds, it uses its fixed fallback address. |
LINK DOWN | The Ethernet cable is not connected. |
NO NET | No network interface. |
192.168.1.11 (for example) | The address to use to connect the app or a script. |
3 — Version
The firmware version, under the IP address.
4 — Acquisition
| Element | Meaning |
|---|---|
RUNNING (green dot) / STOPPED (red dot) | Whether acquisition is running. |
Large number + K PTS/S | Data throughput, in thousands of values per second: the sampling rate × the number of channels. For example 8 kHz on 32 channels gives 256. Shows -- when the acquisition is not running. |
RUN TIME | Time elapsed since the acquisition started, as HH:MM:SS; --:--:-- when stopped. |
5 — Headstage
| Display | Meaning |
|---|---|
Filled chip icon, number + CH, READY | A headstage is identified; the number is its channel count (16 or 32). |
Ring icon, ..., DETECTING | A headstage was just connected and is being identified. |
Crossed icon, ERR, HS FAULT | A headstage is present but cannot be identified. Unplug and reconnect it. |
Slashed grey icon, --, NO HEADSTAGE | No headstage connected. |
6 — CPU idle
How much processing capacity the device has left, as a percentage and a bar of 56 segments. A full bar means the device is mostly idle. Below 15 % the value and the bar turn red: the device is overloaded (for example by a heavy Studio program or analysis).
7 — Studio program (DSL)
The state of the Studio program held by the device:
| Tag | Meaning |
|---|---|
IDLE | No program. |
UPLOADING | A program is being sent to the device. |
LOADED | A program is loaded and waiting. |
SETUP | The program is running its Setup section. |
LOOP | The program is running its Loop section. |
ERROR | The program stopped on an error (see the Serial Terminal). |
The tag is filled while a program is running.
8 — Page indicator
1/2 with two bars: the highlighted bar shows the current page.
9 — LEDs
Three squares: green, amber and red. A lit LED is shown filled with a halo; an unlit one is an outline. They follow the three indicator LEDs of the device, which you can set with the G_ON, R_ON, Y_ON commands or with the IO blocks of Studio. The amber LED also flashes briefly when you change page.
Page 2 — Impedance
The second page shows the result of the latest impedance measurement (ZCHECK_SCAN or the app's impedance scan) as a grid of 8 × 4 cells, one per channel.
- Each cell shows the channel number (top left) and its impedance in kΩ: no decimals from 100 kΩ, one decimal from 10 kΩ, two decimals below.
- The colour goes from light lavender (lowest impedance measured) to dark aubergine (highest). The legend at the bottom shows the lowest value on the left and the highest on the right.
- A grey cell with
--means the channel was not measured or the measurement failed; channels the device does not acquire are also shown this way. - Before the first scan, the page shows
NO SCAN YETandRUN ZCHECK TO MEASURE.
Changing page
Press the page button of the device. A firm press (held for about 50 ms) switches between page 1 and page 2; shorter contacts are ignored. The start-up screen cannot be skipped.
